Mercy Health - West Hospital's PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is dedicated to creating a nurturing and vibrant learning environment. Residents have the opportunity to refine their skills and expand their competence in providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care within diverse hospital settings. The program emphasizes direct patient care, practice management, and an all-encompassing understanding of medication therapy outcomes, prioritizing resident well-being and fostering resiliency. Residents can expect comprehensive guidance and ongoing mentorship, allowing them to flourish and thrive as they prepare for successful careers in pharmacy practice.

LEARNING EXPERIENCES

The rotation schedule for the 12-month PGY1 residency program includes:

Required monthly learning experiences:
• Orientation
• Internal medicine
• Emergency medicine
• Critical care
• Antimicrobial stewardship
• Administration

Longitudinal learning experiences:
• Ambulatory care (anticoagulation)
• Medication safety
• Pharmacy and therapeutics
• Pharmacy practice experience

Elective learning experiences:
• Ambulatory care (congestive heart failure, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and smoking cessation)
• Sterile compounding
• Repeat any required rotation
• Teaching and learning certificate through the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy

Other elective learning experiences may be developed based on resident interest and preceptor availability.

selected for an interview with Mercy Health — West Hospital in January and February.

Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy

Eligible for licensure in Ohio

Completed application materials

Onsite interview (virtual may be considered)
