The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency conducted by St. Bernards Medical Center (SBMC) is accredited by ASHP. SBMC is a 440-bed community hospital located in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Our mission is to provide Christ-like healing to the community through education, treatment, and health services. We serve as the regional referral center for 23 counties in northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri.
SBMC is recruiting 2 pharmacy residents for the upcoming residency year. The program is designed to build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.
The program is 12 months in duration and includes the following required block learning experiences: pharmacy orientation, clinical services, internal medicine, emergency medicine, critical care, infectious disease, and medication safety. Required longitudinal experiences include hospital staffing, management and leadership, parenteral nutrition, residency projects, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) teaching certificate.
