The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Trinity Health Grand Rapids builds upon the Doctor of Pharmacy education to contribute to the development of independent clinical pharmacy practitioners. Required experiences include inpatient medicine, ambulatory care, antimicrobial stewardship, administration and critical care and/or emergency medicine. The program is adaptable to allow individuals to pursue elective rotations in specialized areas, such as renal transplant, psychiatric medicine and HIV. Supplemental skills are fostered through creation and delivery of a continuing education lecture, medical resident presentation, and the option to participate in the Pharmacy Education Development and Lecture Series teaching certificate program. Additional requirements include ACLS certification, medical emergency response, a medication use evaluation and research project.
The breadth of experience obtained while at Trinity Health Grand Rapids allows residents to acquire competence in a wide range of pharmacotherapeutic areas and cultivates excellent clinical pharmacy practitioners responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
