CommUnityCare is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides outpatient primary care in Travis County. The population served includes a combination of managed care, public aid, and under-resourced patients. Other health care workers that the resident interacts with include physicians, specialists, medical residents, dentists, pharmacy staff, behavioral health professionals, dieticians, and social workers.
The PGY-2 ASHP accredited Ambulatory Care Residency is a collaboration between The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy and CommUnityCare Health Centers. It is a comprehensive, individualized, post-doctoral clinical pharmacy program designed to provide extensive training in ambulatory care. CommUnityCare Health Centers serves as a major teaching site for The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School’s medical students and residents, as well as, The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy’s students and residents. The goal of this program is to enable the resident to deliver state-of-the-art clinical pharmacy services in an outpatient setting. The skills required to deliver high caliber pharmaceutical care will be developed through supervised, direct patient care in pharmacist- managed clinics that provide drug therapy management for variety of adult chronic diseases via collaborative practice agreements. The pharmacy resident will be an integral component of the health care team at CommUnityCare Health Centers. The program will also further develop the resident’s teaching effectiveness and research skills. In addition to actively participating in various pharmacist-managed clinics, resident responsibilities include; completion of a residency project suitable for presentation and publication, supervision of Pharm.D. students on clinical rotations, conducting a grand rounds lecture, providing didactic lectures, in-services, and medication education to medical students, residents, health care professionals, and patients.
Upon completion of training, the resident will have the ability to take on a leadership role in pharmacy practice and be able to develop new clinical practices. Previous residents have been successful in a variety of environments include clinical practice, academia, management and pharmaceutical industry.
Additionally, the program provides support to attend professional meetings and conferences, including ASHP Midyear. The resident also receives a clinical instructor appointment and participation in the Teaching and Leadership Fellows Program with The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.

REQUIREMENTS
Pharm.D. degree from ACPE-accredited institution
Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program
Texas licensure by start date
Participation in the ASHP Resident Matching Program
Professional competence, interpersonal communication skills, public communication skills, and clinical practice interests
