Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is a 622 bed tertiary care academic medical center which offers postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency training. We not only serve the local community, including underserved populations, but we also care for a diverse international patient population. CCHMC and its employees champion diversity, equity and inclusion, and live it out every day.
The goal of the PGY1 residency program is to train pharmacists to be competent in providing direct patient care to a variety of pediatric patient populations. Individuals completing the residency program will have the skills needed to complete a PGY2 Pharmacy Residency in Pediatrics or to practice as a decentralized staff pharmacist in a pediatric setting. Upon completion of the program, residents will be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) Patient Care, 2) Advancing Practice and Improving Care, 3) Leadership and Management, 4) Teaching, Education and Dissemination of Knowledge, and 5) Management of Medical Emergencies.
The residency offers training in general and subspecialty pediatrics, critical care (PICU, CICU, NICU), emergency medicine, transplantation, ambulatory patient care, and practice management. The residency program tailors to the professional goals of the resident by complementing required rotations with a wide selection of elective rotations.
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center provides the ideal tertiary and ambulatory care settings to foster the development of a contemporary pediatric pharmacy practitioner. The resident will participate in daily patient centered interdisciplinary rounds, attend pertinent committee meetings, participate in P&T and Performance Improvement activities and contribute to the teaching activities of the department. The resident will participate in all aspects of medication therapy management provided at the Medical Center.
Each resident will be expected to complete a major residency project during the residency. The project must deal with a subject pertinent to pharmaceutical care services within the Medical Center. It must be of direct benefit to patient care. The resident is expected to complete the project and submit a written manuscript in a format suitable for publication. As part of the total educational experience, the resident will be required to staff in the pharmacy every other weekend.
This 52 week residency begins June 24, 2024. The residency offers a stipend of $51,000 and full employee benefits.
The Division of Pharmacy focuses on cultivating, retaining, and bringing in diverse talent. Applicants should be highly motivated Pharm.D. degreed pharmacists eligible for pharmacist licensure in Ohio. Applicants must be participants in the ASHP matching program in order to be considered for the residency. All completed online application materials received by 11:59 pm on January 2, 2024 will receive preferential consideration for the on-site interview process.
