Residency Showcase Program Listings

The University of North Carolina Medical Center is a ~1000 bed academic teaching institution with 41 residents across 14 programs. The program has a strong emphasis on education and teaching where residents learn from world-class preceptors and have the opportunity to teach at UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. The UNC Department of Pharmacy has an emphasis on mentorship, collaboration, leadership, innovation, and technology, which has led to seven ASHP Best Practice Awards and an ASHP Medication Excellence Award. At UNC, residents are integral members of the health care team with the opportunity to participate in nearly all aspects of the operational, clinical, educational, and scholarly missions of the department.

Applicants for the PGY-1 or combined PGY-1/2 programs must be graduates of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy, and must be eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of North Carolina.

Applicants for the PGY-2 residency programs must be graduates of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy and an ASHP accredited PGY-1 pharmacy residency program. They must also be eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of North Carolina

About University of North Carolina Medical Center Pharmacy Residency Programs

The UNC Medical Center is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Department of Pharmacy's Mission is to provide patient centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through an alignment of practice, education, research, and leadership. The department of pharmacy has a 50+ year history of excellence in pharmacy residency training. The medical center houses 41 residents in 14 distinct programs, including: PGY1 Pharmacy (Acute Care), PGY1 Pharmacy (Ambulatory Care), 24 month programs in Health-Systems Pharmacy Administration/Leadership and Pharmacotherapy, and PGY2 programs in Ambulatory Care, Cardiology, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Medication Use Policy & Safety, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Solid Organ Transplant. The department enjoys a strong and collaborative relationship with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, where residents take on roles as teaching assistants. The department employs over 400 individuals, providing services to patients in all counties in the state of North Carolina.
