The PGY2 Cardiology Residency program focuses on developing clinical analytical, teaching and leadership skills needed to care for cardiology patients. The program covers various different care settings including the intensive care unit, general floor, operating room, procedural areas and ambulatory clinic. The resident will be involved in departmental or organizational committees or initiatives that focus on the care of cardiology patients.
Required focused rotations include cardiac care 1&2, cardiothoracic surgery 1&2, advanced heart failure/heart transplant 1, electrophysiology, general cardiology 1&2 and a longitudinal experience in cardiology ambulatory care. Residents will also have one required selective rotation and will choose between medical ICU or internal medicine. Elective rotations allow for exploration of the resident’s clinical interest and include repeating any of the above focused cardiology rotations as well as cardiology adjacent rotations such as renal transplant or stroke service.
The resident will gain experience in academia through preceptorship of pharmacy students and residents as well as the option to give a didactic lecture at Wake Forest University Physician Assistant Program.
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy, eligibility for licensure in the state of North Carolina or currently licensed in the state, and successful completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency.

Today the department provides decentralized clinical services to more than 47 inpatient services and a variety of ambulatory clinics. Pharmacists and technicians partner to ensure safe transitions of care during patient admission and discharge and assist patients in accessing pharmaceutical care.
