Residency Showcase Program Listings

The mission of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport is to provide residents with the skills and knowledge required to become a skilled clinical pharmacist in today’s ever-changing medical community. Our PGY1 Resident cohort is composed of four positions. Each resident completes eight core rotations and four elective rotations which are all one-month in duration. Our required rotations include orientation, project month, internal medicine 1, internal medicine 2, critical care, pediatrics, ambulatory care, and management. Some elective opportunities include, but are not limited to, adult and pediatric infectious disease, nephrology, inpatient and outpatient oncology, hematology, BMT, and emergency medicine.

As part of the longitudinal experience, residents are required to complete a research project, a teaching certificate, staffing services, and drug information activities such as journal clubs, an MUE, and newsletter articles. The resident will also participate in a warfarin dosing and counseling concentrated learning experience. The teaching certificate program is in collaboration with the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) - College of Pharmacy and the LSU Health Shreveport - School of Allied Health Professions.

Requirements:  Graduation from an accredited college of pharmacy (PharmD or comparable experience preferred), United States citizenship or permanent residency, eligibility for Louisiana licensure, college transcript(s), curriculum vitae, letter of intent/interest, three letters of recommendation, and State of Louisiana official application/release of information.

Inpatient pharmacy services and some ambulatory care services at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport are provided by decentralized clinical pharmacists in a team-based practice model. Residents will have the opportunity to learn and advance their careers in a health system that features state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge equipment such as the Epic electronic health record, Pyxis ES integrated dispensing platform and automated dispensing cabinets, BD Pyxis Logistics Inventory Manager, medication carousels, and several USP 797 compliant IV compounding areas.
