Riverview Health is proud to offer a 52-week, ASHP-accredited postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency program. Riverview located in Noblesville, Indiana and is comprised of a full-service, 156-bed hospital in Noblesville, a 16-bed hospital in Westfield, as well as freestanding combined ER and urgent care facilities. The purpose of our PGY1 pharmacy residency program is to build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes by contributing to the development of pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, abilities, skills and competencies as defined in each learning experience. Residents who successfully complete our PGY1 pharmacy residency program will be skilled in providing diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, education and be prepared to seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (ie/BCPS) and purse training opportunities, including PGY2 residencies.
Riverview Health's PGY1 pharmacy residency program offers candidates flexibility and individual attention for a truly exceptional learning experience. The purpose of the Riverview Health PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is to build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals and objectives. Residents who successfully complete our PGY1 pharmacy residency program will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership and education. Residents will be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.
Riverview Health PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program's mission is to provide safe and effective medication therapy to patients we serve and ensure that patients and caregivers understand how to safely use prescribed medications. Our residency program's vision is to be recognized as the medication experts in the organization and to provide an exceptional place to work and learn and to provide outstanding customer service. Our residency program's values consist of the following: maintain a healthy balance between personal and professional life, work collaboratively with others to enhance the overall team effort, encourage diversity by appreciating, learning from and respecting those with different backgrounds, display empathy by showing compassion and appreciation for the needs of others, exhibit honesty, integrity, openness and strong ethics by always doing the right thing, ensure expertise by providing evidenced-based patient-centered recommendations, lead by advancing the practice of pharmacy within the institution and beyond and provide safe and high quality care to patients.
The goal of our residency program is to create an environment where pharmacy graduates can obtain the knowledge and skills needed to become competent in providing clinical and operational services to a wide variety of patients.
The Riverview Health PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program offers 20 learning experiences between all required (including required longitudinal) and elective rotations based at Riverview Health. Our PGY1 pharmacy residency program consists of consists of 8 required rotations (Pharmacy Orientation/Training, Internal Medicine, Anticoagulation/Surgery, Critical Care, Endocrinology/Nephrology, Infectious Diseases, Cardiology and Pharmacy Administration); 6 required longitudinal rotations (Academia, Ambulatory Care, Residency Research Project, Resident Leadership Development, Drug Information and Staffing); and 6 elective rotations (Medication Therapy Management, Hematology/Oncology, Pulmonology, Pharmacy Informatics and Automation, Diabetes Camp and Global Health). Residents may select up to 3 elective rotations. Special projects and presentations will be required throughout the program.
Residents will be required to earn certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). In addition, residents may elect to earn a teaching certificate through the Indiana Pharmacy Teaching Certificate (IPTeC) program during the Academia learning experience.
By the end of the residency program, our residents will be confident and highly skilled practitioners equipped with the knowledge and skills to face the challenges of our ever-evolving pharmacy practices. They will display professional maturity and cultural diversity by monitoring their own performance, establishing a personal philosophy of practice and demonstrating leadership and commitment to the pharmacy profession.

In addition, the Riverview Health PGY1 Residency Program requires all residents to obtain the following certifications in the first half of the residency year:

Teaching Experiences
As part of the Academia longitudinal learning experience, residents may choose to earn a teaching certificate from the Indiana Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program (IPTeC). Residents will practice delivering didactic lectures to second and/or third year pharmacy students as well as leading therapeutic patient cases at Butler University. In addition, residents will be given the opportunity to precept APPE students throughout the residency year and demonstrate their ability to educate other members of the health care team, patients and the community on drug-related issues.
