The Inova PGY1 Community-Based Residency provides clinical and administrative training for pharmacists suitable for entry into an advanced patient care role as a community or ambulatory care pharmacist or matriculation into a PGY2 residency program. We are a fairly new program (accredited in 2022) and are excited to offer the opportunity for our residents to help shape our program. Our residents will primarily work at our Inova Schar Cancer Institute specialty pharmacy. At Schar, they will staff, counsel patients, educate pharmacy and other team members about new medications and therapies, develop specific patient care programs and disease state management programs based on current need and the resident's interests. Experience performing medication therapy management through our MTM learning experience is also provided. Numerous opportunities exist for the residents to gain management experience and to initiate quality improvement projects and new business projects working with the pharmacy manager. The residents will staff at the Inova Fairfax Schar Heart and Vascular retail pharmacy with a robust Meds-to-Beds program.
