The PGY-2 Neurology Pharmacy Residency Program at Grady Memorial Hospital (GMH) is a unique, 12-month training program established in 2017 and accredited by ASHP. This program is the second of its kind in the country and the first in a Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level I Trauma Center. The services offered at GMH allow the resident exposure to a diverse neurologic patient population ranging in acuity from outpatients in Neurology Specialty Clinics to neurocritical care patients in the intensive care unit.
Established in 1996 Grady Memorial Hospital's Pharmacy Residency programs have a long-standing history for a commitment to excellence in patient care and residency training. All pharmacy residents participate in a 24-hour, in-house, on call program unique to only a few programs nationally. While on call, residents address drug information questions from physicians and nurses, respond to pharmacokinetic and anticoagulation consults, and respond to cardiac arrest and stroke alerts.

PGY-2 NEUROLOGY PHARMACY PROGRAM DESIGN
The 12-month PGY2 Neurology pharmacy residency program is designed to develop and refine clinical, leadership, research, performance improvement, and teaching skills within the practice of neurology. Training focuses on a full range of neurologic disease states, disorders, and procedures, along with the literature supporting the medication management of neurologic conditions.
The program is intentionally designed with the appropriate amount of flexibility to meet the individual needs and career focus of the resident. Rotations are designed to ensure experience is gained with the highest acuity patients in each sub-specialty area. Clinical knowledge needed to obtain board certification within the practice specialty is provided. Graduates are able to conduct research independently in the neurology environment and should be confident educators in the multidisciplinary and pharmacy training environment.
A tentative schedule will be developed for the resident at the start of the residency that will incorporate each of the required rotations. Following an initial assessment of the resident’s skills and interests, the program and schedule will be adjusted and customized to meet the goals of the specific learner.
