The PGY-2 Oncology Specialty Residency at Grady Health System (GHS) is a one-year ASHP-accredited program that offers a diverse experience for residents. The university teaching hospital environment and unique patient population provides opportunities for great learning experiences. Residents collaborate with Grady staff, as well as attendings from Emory and Morehouse Schools of Medicine and fellows from Emory School of Medicine. Experiences include inpatient rotations, as well as outpatient experiences in the Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence, Edward C. Loughlin Radiation-Oncology Center, and the Ponce de Leon Center (Comprehensive HIV/AIDs facility). Other activities include involvement with clinical research, chemotherapy order creation and management in Beacon, guidelines, policies, formulary management, precepting, and didactic lectures.
Learning experiences available to the Oncology Specialty Resident include:
Required Experiences (4-5 weeks per learning experience)
Orientation/Oncology Practice Management
Hematology I - Inpatient (malignant and benign)
Oncology I - Inpatient
Outpatient I (oncology, malignant hematology, and benign hematology)
Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Ponce de Leon Center (Comprehensive HIV/AIDs facility)
Longitudinal Experiences
Oncology Practice Management
Protocol/policy development
Beacon treatment plans and EPIC order sets
Professional Development Seminars, Residency Research Advisory Committee Seminars, and Capstone at Emory School of Medicine
4-hour shift (Monday-Friday) in Cancer Center Pharmacy. Weekly for approximately the first 5 months of residency. Remainder of the residency, every other week.
Inpatient weekend chemo on-call from home. Once per month, approximately starting November.
Research Committee and Investigational Drug service
Residency Project 1 & 2 (12 months, Flipped Research Project (Presentations may include Vizient, SERC, and or HOPA)
Specific requirements for application to the Oncology Residency program (submission deadline January 5):
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
Successful completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy residency
Eligibility for licensure in the state of Georgia
Personal and leadership qualifications for successful completion of a PGY-2 residency

Submit four (4) references that will utilize the Standardized Reference form provided in PhORCAS. Three (3) references should be provided by residency preceptors and one (1) from the residency program director.

Applicants invited for an on-site interview in January or February and will be required to present a professional presentation on a topic related to clinical pharmacy practice (may present residency research project if some data collection and analysis has been completed).
