MedStar Health is the largest healthcare provider in Maryland and the Washington, D.C., region. MedStar’s 10 hospitals, the MedStar Health Research Institute, MedStar Medical Group, and our other programs and services are recognized regionally and nationally for excellence in medical care. MedStar Health combines the best aspects of academic medicine, research and innovation with a complete spectrum of clinical services to advance patient care. Our areas of clinical excellence include cardiology and cardiac surgery, orthopedics, cancer, transplantation, rehabilitation, and emergency and trauma services.
The PGY2 health-system pharmacy administration residency builds upon PGY1 residency graduates’ competence in the delivery of patient-centered care and in pharmacy operational services to prepare residents who can assume high level managerial, supervisory, and leadership responsibilities, with emphasis on multi-hospital health systems.
Areas of competence emphasized during the PGY2 program include safe and effective medication-use systems, quality assurance, the management of human resources, the management of financial resources, use of technology, and advanced leadership.
Upon graduation, residents are prepared for a clinical or operational management/supervisory role in a variety of work settings including small to mid-size hospitals, large health systems, and pharmacy benefit management organizations. The PGY2 residency will serve as a pipeline for MedStar pharmacy leadership, with the goal of retaining residents in the MedStar Pharmacy Enterprise.
