Rhode Island Hospital (Brown University Health), formerly known as Lifespan, is proud to offer an ASHP accredited PGY-1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program. Our residency showcase at ASHP Midyear is Monday, December 9th from 1pm - 4pm in booth 4549 - Lifespan Pharmacy.

Purpose

The Brown University Health Specialty Pharmacy PGY-1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program builds upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

Program Goals

This residency provides extensive opportunities that foster the development of a well-rounded leader in specialty drug management and education. The residency is based in a Health-System Specialty Pharmacy, where pharmacy teams are integrated into a wide range of outpatient specialty clinics. There is an emphasis on inflammatory conditions, oncology/hematology, pulmonary conditions, and transplant. These learning opportunities are coupled with longitudinal involvement in practice management, staffing responsibilities, population health management, MTM, and research.

Program Benefits

The resident will receive a 1-year stipend in the total amount of $53,000. The resident is eligible for Brown University Health insurance coverage. Ten vacation days and 5 sick days are available. A travel reimbursement will be provided to attend a clinical meeting to present the resident's research project. The resident is also provided with a dedicated workspace and a laptop computer.

Eligibility

Qualifications for participation in the Brown University Health Specialty Pharmacy PGY-1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program are in accordance with the criteria set forth by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). Residents shall be graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program. Residents must be licensed or eligible for licensure in Rhode Island. Residents shall participate in and obey the rules of the Residency Matching Program.
