Residency Showcase Program Listings

The PGY-2 oncology pharmacy residency at Penn State Health offers a flexible design to accommodate the needs of each resident in a dynamic academic medical center to develop exceptional clinical pharmacists prepared to accept employment in a variety of oncology pharmacy settings. The Penn State Cancer Institute treats thousands of patients every year at our Penn State Health- Milton S. Hershey Medical Center location and inpatient services include allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplantation, cellular therapy (CAR-T), and other novel therapies such as bispecific T-cell engager (BiTE) therapy.   

Required learning experiences: Adult Hematology, Adult Stem Cell Transplant/Cellular Therapy, Inpatient Oncology/Transitions of Care, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Oncology/Infusion, Oncology Pharmacy Practice Management, Specialty Oncology

Required longitudinal experiences: Clinical On Call including ACLS code response, Pharmacy Student and Resident Precepting, Hospital Pharmacy Practice (staff the equivalent of every 3rd weekend and one shift every other week), Oncology/Investigational Drug Service, ACPE Presentation/fellows pharmacology lectures, MUE, Research Project, Health-system Oncology P&T Subcommittee, Oncology Pharmacy Informatics (Cerner/Epic transition), Medication Safety 

Elective learning experiences: Immunocompromised Infectious Diseases, Oncology Critical Care (ED/MICU/NSICU), Pain/Palliative Care, Specialty Oncology Clinic, Adult Oncology Inpatient,  in addition to additional time with required experiences.

All applicants must be graduates of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy who have graduated from or anticipate graduating from an ASHP accredited PGY1 residency program prior to the initiation of this PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency

All candidates must be eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

About Penn State Health- Milton S. Hershey Medical Center

Pharmacy residents in our programs (6 PGY1 pharmacy residents, 2 PGY2 critical care residents, 1 PGY-2 resident each in pediatrics and oncology) are immersed in patient care pharmacotherapy opportunities consisting of several different practice areas in one location. Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (PSHMC) is a large, tertiary care acute teaching hospital. PSHMC consists of a level 1 trauma center in which the emergency department provides services for greater than 75,000 visits and 30,000 patients are admitted to the hospital each year. Penn State Children’s Hospital features the region’s highest level neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. Additionally, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute promotes multidisciplinary approaches to cancer care.
