Residency Showcase Program Listings

The HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and offers two PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency positions, one PGY-1/PGY-2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency position, and one PGY-2 Pharmacy Informatics position. 

Established in 1875, HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is a community teaching hospital located in O’Fallon, Illinois, 15 miles from St. Louis, Missouri. St. Elizabeth’s Hospital serves over 40 different medical specialties and is the primary practice site for the St. Louis University Family Medicine Residency program. St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is a member of the Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS), a multi-institutional health care system that sponsors 13 hospitals that is based in Springfield, Illinois.

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program allows the residents flexibility in designing their activities to meet their interests. Core rotations are comprised of Administration, Ambulatory Care, Critical Care, Distribution/Orientation, Internal Medicine and Advanced Internal Medicine, and Medication Safety.  Elective opportunities are designed to develop advanced skills in a variety of areas and include, but are not limited to Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Antimicrobial Stewardship/Infectious Disease, Pain Management, Pharmacy Informatics, Psychiatry, and Transitions of Care.  In addition, the program offers a Teaching Certificate in association with SIUE School of Pharmacy.  Completion of a major research project suitable for publication is required along with a presentation at the Illinois Pharmacy Resident Conference, along with an ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting Poster.

The PGY-2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency Program is designed to develop the resident into a leader in pharmacy informatics and health information technology.  The resident will provide support to the pharmacy and informatics departments for the 13 hospitals of HSHS.  Rotation opportunities include Clinical Decision Support, Operational Informatics, Evidence-Based Medicine, Health System Informatics, Pharmacy Automation, Supply Chain, Vendor Informatics, Medication Safety, Pharmacy Information Systems, and Administration, Quality, and Regulatory Compliance.  In addition, the program offers an elective Teaching Certificate program in association with the SIUE School of Pharmacy.  The resident also will have the opportunity to deliver presentations at regional and national conferences.

Application Requirements

HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Residency Programs participate in the PhORCAS program and the required documents include: 

• Curriculum vitae
• School/college of pharmacy transcripts
• Letter of intent
• Three electronic reference forms

Completed application forms and required supplemental materials are due by January 2nd.
