The PGY1-PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) Residency at Geisinger offers customized residency education to successfully prepare pharmacy leaders to care for patients, innovate, lead, and improve the quality of care as well as the patient experience. Residents are immersed in a collaborative interprofessional culture where clinical pharmacists practice at the top of their license in acute care, ambulatory care, specialty pharmacy and research. Each individual resident’s curriculum is customized to facilitate achievement of their personal and professional goals.
Our program provides residents with the opportunity to develop a solid clinical and operational foundation in the PGY1 year at Geisinger Medical Center, and then builds on that experience in the PGY2 year, capitalizing on the unique learning environment offered through the integrated care delivery system at Geisinger. Our team fosters an innovative and supportive learning environment with enriching opportunities for pharmacy residency training in administration and leadership in the practice settings of acute care, ambulatory care and health plan pharmacy.
Our program goals are to:
Develop a pharmacy leader with experience and perspective across the continuum of care from direct patient care to executive leadership.
Develop a versatile pharmacy leader with experience in all facets of an integrated delivery network.
Instill a culture of engagement, innovation, and leadership in the future pharmacy leader.
Model successful integration of pharmacy into a health system as an institute and health-system pillar.
Prepare the pharmacy leader for their role in a diverse, equitable, and inclusive healthcare environment.
Purpose: The PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency program builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available. Residents who complete the PGY1-PGY2 HSPAL at Geisinger are prepared for a clinical or operational management or supervisory role in a variety of work settings.
The PGY1-PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) Residency at Geisinger is an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited residency program.
