East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC), principally located in Opelika, AL, is a 314-bed acute care regional referral center that includes a level III trauma center, medical/surgical ICU, cardiovascular ICU, and level III NICU. The Spencer Cancer Center is located nearby offering state-of-the-art chemotherapy and radiation therapy for patients.
EAMC offers PGY1 pharmacy residency positions for three (3) residents. The residency has six core rotations and several elective rotations (see below). We are a flexible program and encourage our residents to challenge themselves, giving them opportunities to delve further into their areas of interest to better prepare them for PGY2 positions or entry into hospital pharmacy.
Required rotations:
Orientation, General/Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease, Critical Care, Internal Medicine Rounding Service, Administration/Leadership (longitudinal), and Internal Medicine Residency Clinic (longitudinal)
Elective rotations:
Academia, Ambulatory Care, Cardiology, Critical Care II/Nutrition, Emergency Medicine, HIV/AIDS, Infectious Disease II/Antimicrobial Stewardship, Oncology, Pediatrics/Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Infusion Clinic
Staffing requirements:
Every third weekend, and one weeknight (M, T, or W, 1700 - 2100)
Research/Projects:
Research project (flipped model), medication use evaluation, performance improvement project, and P&T presentation
Presentations:
ASHP Midyear Conference poster, Patient Rounds presentation to VCOM Medical Students/Faculty, and regional residency conferences - Alabama Residency Conference and Southeastern Residency Conference

Elective rotations:
Ambulatory Care, Infectious Disease/Antimicrobial Stewardship, Cardiology, and Neurology
Staffing requirements:
Every fourth weekend and every other Friday (1800 - 2200)
Research/Projects:
Research project (flipped model), medication use evaluation specific to emergency medicine/critical care, performance improvement project specific to emergency medicine/critical care, medication protocol and P&T presentation
Presentations:
ACPE-certified journal club presentation, Society of Academic Emergency Medicine abstract, Grand Rounds presentation to VCOM Medical Students/Faculty, and regional residency conferences - Alabama Residency Conference and Southeastern Residency Conference

The applicant must possess a Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE accredited college or school of Pharmacy and be eligible for licensure in Alabama. Additionally, PGY-2 Emergency Medicine applicants must have successfully completed an ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy residency. All applications must be submitted through PhORCAS (Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application System).
