The County of Santa Clara Health System is our local healthcare safety net and provider of comprehensive care, service, and program to the residents of our county. The Health System includes the Behavioral Health Services Department, Public Health Department, Santa Clara Valley Healthcare's network of hospitals and clinics including Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, O'Connor Hospital and St. Louise Regional Hospital, Emergency Medical Services Agency, Custody Health Services Department, and Valley Health Plan. We are dedicated to the health and well-being of all communities in Santa Clara County. We have a large and thriving residency program including PGY1 and PGY2 residencies and collaborate with multiple schools of pharmacy to precept APPE students.
The main training site for our residency program is Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC). SCVMC is a nationally recognized, 731-bed county teaching hospital, affiliated with Stanford School of Medicine with a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center and Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, a Burn Trauma Center, multiple ICUs, and rehabilitation center for traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. We also have pharmacists practicing under collaborative practice agreements in multiple specialty ambulatory care clinics such as Heart Failure, Diabetes, HIV, and Specialty Pharmacy.
County of Santa Clara Health System is actively recruiting for all PGY1 tracks:

Founded in 1876, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is a nationally recognized public health care facility that provides a full range of acute care, intensive care, rehabilitation, and ambulatory services. It is a part of the County of Santa Clara Health System (‘Health System”) which includes 3 hospitals (Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC), O’Connor Hospital (OCH), and Saint Louise Regional Hospital (SLRH)), numerous ambulatory health centers and 15+ outpatient pharmacies throughout the county. Each year, the hospitals care for thousands of patients and handle over 500,000 outpatient and emergency visits. The hospitals are dedicated to providing high-quality inpatient care as well as specialized services. Each year, more than 150 burn victims from the surrounding five-county area receive intensive care and rehabilitation at the hospital’s Burn Trauma Center at SCVMC.
Medical education is a cornerstone of our residency program. We have affiliations with the University of the Pacific School of Pharmacy, Touro University College of Pharmacy, UC San Francisco School of Pharmacy, and other professional schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. SCVMC has been affiliated with the ...Stanford University School of Medicine since 1970, training medical residents with some of the region’s more challenging cases.
As public hospitals, we are an excellent environment for pharmacy residency training.
Our health system provides a variety of challenging training opportunities through the provision of a full range of services to a socioeconomically and culturally diverse patient population. The Department of Pharmacy Services is an integral component in providing progressive pharmaceutical care throughout the health system. Pharmacy staff preceptors have extensive teaching experience, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and hold offices in professional organizations.
