This PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency Program is designed to develop pharmacists who can integrate themselves into a pharmacy benefits management (PBM) environment and provide statistical and clinical support for decision-making in the formulary process. Graduates will be able to perform the duties of a pharmacist at Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee Meetings such as presentation of agenda items to P&T members, identifying areas for cost-effectiveness treatment, developing budget reports, presenting regular reports for Drug Utilization Evaluation (DUE) subcommittee, and providing in-service to hospital staff (e.g., pharmacists, physicians, and nurses). Graduates will also be able to manage a formulary system through updates and developing criteria for use (CFU) for non-formulary/restricted agents. Residents who complete the residency will be able to precept students in Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences on formulary management and addressing non-formulary consults for decision (denial or approval). Graduates can critically analyze literature and utilize the information to practice and make decisions. Lastly, these graduates will be able to communicate and educate clinicians, residents, and students on formulary-related topics.
