This solid organ transplant pharmacy residency is a one-year ASHP-accredited residency designed to provide in-depth inpatient and ambulatory experiences in solid organ transplantation. The University of Kentucky Transplant Center performs more than 200 procedures each year including kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, lung, and multi-organ transplantation. The primary emphasis is placed on the development of clinical practice skills while delivering patient-focused care. Core learning experiences combined with electives built around the resident’s prior experiences and multiple longitudinal experiences provide a well-rounded learning experience. Longitudinal experiences include clinical research, staffing, as well as teaching and precepting.
The transplant residents participate in clinical research activities that are presented at national meetings and are submitted for publication. The program is affiliated with a nationally-recognized college of pharmacy which provides residents with opportunities to engage in educational activities including precepting Doctor of Pharmacy students and facilitating group discussions and presenting didactic lectures. Upon completion of the program, residents are expected to demonstrate competency in the areas of clinical transplant pharmacy practice, clinical research, and teaching.
