The UK HealthCare PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) Residency is an ASHP-accredited program that encompasses a two-year experience combining the well-rounded clinical experiences of the PGY1 Pharmacy residency program with management and leadership experiences during the second year. Residents in the program also pursue a Master of Science degree from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy allowing for collaboration with residents from other leading institutions. Graduates of the program are positioned to fulfill a variety of entry-level pharmacy administration roles within a large health-system.
UK Healthcare is a 1,040 bed tertiary care center located in the heart of the Bluegrass in Lexington, KY. It serves as a primary care center for the citizens of Kentucky (#1 hospital in KY by US News & World Report) and includes services such as a Level 1 Trauma Center, TJC certified comprehensive stroke and epilepsy centers, an ECMO Center of Excellence, active kidney, liver, heart, and lung transplant centers, and an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. The Department of Pharmacy is composed of over 450 pharmacists within practice settings ranging from Critical Care, Internal Medicine, and Transplant to Infusion Centers, Retail Pharmacy, and Specialty Pharmacy. Pharmacy service integration across the enterprise provides pharmacy residents countless opportunities to advance patient care and facilitate service growth.
Program Highlights Include:
Robust PGY1 clinical rotational experiences across the patient care spectrum
Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership PGY2 with broad rotational options (e.g. Supply Chain Management, 340B Compliance, Pharmacy Operations, Medication Safety, and Finance)
Opportunity for engagement in key departmental projects such as Smart Pump Interoperability, EHR Optimization, and Pharmacy Automation Implementation.
Collaboration with 35 residents across UK HealthCare’s 13 programs, including 2 PGY1 and 2 PGY2 HSPAL residents
Master of Science degree from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy

The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy Community Pharmacy Residency Program (CPRP), established in 2001, is dedicated to developing community practitioners who are providers of direct patient care services and innovators in the advancement of community pharmacy practice. The program will equip the residents to: provide direct patient care in community pharmacy settings, effectively communicate with/educate student pharmacists, pharmacists, patients, and other healthcare professionals, manage advanced patient care practices, be a leader and role model for pharmacists, other healthcare professionals, and student pharmacists in advancing the profession of pharmacy, and utilize core management skills to effectively operate a community pharmacy.
