The Pharmacy Department provides clinical services through decentralized pharmacists in an integrated practice model. Distribution is through automated dispensing machines and centralized IV preparation. Education of health care professionals is an important component of our mission. Endeavor Health NorthShore Hospitals currently offers 10 positions in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program, 3 positions in the PGY1 Community-Based Residency program, and 1 position each in the PGY2 Oncology, PGY1/2 Pharmacy Informatics, PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership, and PGY2 Pharmacogenomics Residency Programs. All residents have opportunities to develop and reinforce clinical, practice management, and precepting skills to advance as well-rounded practitioners.

Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency Description

The Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency at NorthShore University HealthSystem is structured to expose residents to all critical aspects of leading a contemporary pharmacy service. Residents will learn the importance of developing professional relationships with pharmacy staff and other members of the healthcare team. In addition, residents will improve their communication skills and gain expertise in financial, human resources, and operational management. The program meets the training goals and objectives as set forth by ASHP’s accreditation standards. Upon completion of the program, the resident will be positioned for a role as a clinical coordinator, medication safety officer, informatics pharmacist, or pharmacy manager.

• Service Commitment

Service Commitment:

Work as a clinical pharmacist up to 40 shifts over the year; no more than every fourth weekend. While staffing, residents are expected to provide comprehensive clinical services working closely with attending physicians and medical residents to ensure appropriate drug therapy. Resident will participate in manager-on-call weekends during the year.

The following are required for all candidates:

• Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited program and successful completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program prior to start date
• Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician or Student Intern license (if a pharmacist license is not obtained prior to start of residency year)
• Illinois Pharmacist Registration by August 15th of residency year
• PhORCAS application, including curriculum vitae, letter of intent, transcript, and 3 letters of recommendation (at least 1 letter must be from your PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director)
• Onsite interview for selected candidates

This residency seeks candidates who have a demonstrated interest in administration. Therefore, candidates who have had some management experience, completed administrative rotations during their pharmacy residency would be considered priority candidates. We will also consider other work experience, career goals, academic performance and communication skills as important factors in our selection process.
