PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
Pharmacists completing this residency will be competent and confident pharmacy practitioners of direct patient care in various environments. They will be able to provide drug information to any health care team, possess independent leadership skills, teaching skills and communicate well in personal and group settings. They will demonstrate professional and personal maturity by following a philosophy of professional practice, monitoring their own performance, exhibiting a commitment to the profession, and exercising leadership in improving the safety of the medication use system.
The ASHP accredited 12 month program is designed to develop clinicians that practice independently and excel in clinical services, teaching and research. Areas of emphasis include critical care, trauma/surgery, internal medicine and administration. The resident will participate in the following rotations: adult internal medicine I and II, cardiology, pharmacy operations, infectious disease/antimicrobial stewardship and 2 out of 3 required critical care, trauma/surgery or emergency medicine. Leadership, research project, teaching certificate and staffing will occur longitudinally. Elective rotations in geriatric-psych, orthopedic surgery, psychiatric pharmacy, pain management, ambulatory care services, oncology, and neonatal ICU.
Phase I Requirements: Letter of interest, 3 letters of reference via standard reference form in PhORCAS system, college of pharmacy transcripts, Curriculum Vitae and written case presentation (PowerPoint presentation saved as 6 slides per page is the preferred format for the case presentation, and it will need to be uploaded as a PDF file for PhORCAS).
