Residency Showcase Program Listings

The ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency program builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

This program offers opportunities for two pharmacy residents to hone their clinical skills in a community hospital setting, to include rotations at Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center and Scottsdale Shea Medical Center, leading to exposure to a variety of diverse patient care settings.

Shea Medical Center is a 420+ bed facility known for its oncology, cardiology, and women and children’s services. Most recently the oncology service has expanded to support leukemia services, bone marrow transplant, CAR-T therapy, and TIL therapy. Other services provided include Critical Care, ECMO, Level III NICU services, and bariatric surgery. The Shea campus is also home to HonorHealth Medication Management, an ambulatory care pharmacist-managed clinic.

Osborn Medical Center is a full-service acute-care hospital with 300+ medical/surgical beds. The hospital’s Level I trauma center is consistently one of the busiest in the state and is regarded as a leader in neurosurgery, orthopedics, and rehabilitation. The Osborn campus has a long-standing military partnership as well as a Family Medicine residency program. 

The Departments of Pharmacy provide 24/7 services supported by approximately 90 combined pharmacy personnel. The hospitals leverage a computerized electronic health record, automated dispensing systems, IV room verification software, as well as clinical and decentralized pharmacy services.

Requirements for the application include:

• Graduate of an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy
• Eligible for Arizona pharmacist licensure
• Completed PhORCAS application including the following materials:
  • Letter of Intent
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Official pharmacy school transcript
  • Three letters of reference

HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn & Scottsdale Shea Medical Centers' Post-Graduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. The program builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies. If you're interested in pursuing a residency at HonorHealth, you need to participate in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists' Resident Matching Program and submit an application electronically through the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS). Submit an application for the matching program by visiting ashp.org/phorcas. Competitive candidates will be emailed for a personal interview that will take place between January and March.
