The PGY1 Pharmacy residency program at Atrium Health Cabarrus* offers residents a diverse experience. The practice setting is an acute care environment. The purpose of PGY1 pharmacy residency programs is to build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
The focus of this program is to prepare generalist pharmacist clinicians for direct patient care positions in the hospital setting. A healthcare system training environment provides the framework for preparing pharmacists who will provide patient-centered medication therapy management across the health care continuum including transitions of care.
The pharmacy department at Atrium Health Cabarrus delivers patient-centered, medication-related care throughout the organization with diverse, decentralized inpatient services including OR/Surgical services, pediatrics, infectious diseases, critical care, neurology, cardiology, geriatrics, internal medicine, oncology, and emergency medicine. Opportunities for an elective ambulatory care rotation within our health system exists. Listed below is the link for the residency program.
Residents will receive a salary of 60,325 and full benefits as available to Advocate Health Teammates.

Residency Candidate Applicant Requirements:
Graduates of an ACPE-Accredited Program: Applicants must be graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program (or one in process of pursuing accreditation). Pharmacy School GPA >/= to 3.0
ASHP Resident Matching Program: Atrium Health Cabarrus' residency program participate in the Resident Matching Program. Applicants MUST register to participate in the match. Work Authorization/Permit: To qualify for the residency program, all applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship now or in the future.
Atrium Health Application: Submit an Atrium Health online application and successfully meet the initial human resource requirements. These include a background check, reference checks, drug screen and health assessment/screen.

The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Atrium Health Cabarrus is a one-year, full-time residency beginning approximately June 19th of each year. Clinical, operational and educational aspects of pharmacy practice are emphasized during this comprehensive training experience. Developing skills to provide safe medication use through patient-focused, evidence-based medication management is the foundation and focus of our training. A fundamental feature of the residency is commitment to regular and extensive interaction between the resident and preceptors.
