The Baystate Medical Center PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program purpose is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The Baystate Medical Center PGY1 Residency Program is designed in accordance with the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists Accreditation Standard for PGY1 pharmacy residency programs. Residents (over the 12 month program) will be expected to meet goals and objectives associated with the four required competency areas of a PGY1 pharmacy residency program. Required learning experiences include Orientation, Adult Critical Care, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Medication Safety, Pediatrics and Resident Self-Designed Improvement Rotation. Elective learning experiences include Academia, Adult Critical Care II, Emergency Medicine, Geriatrics, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease/Consult Service, Opioid Stewardship, Pediatric Critical Care, Neurology, Neonatal Intensive Care and Renal Transplant. Longitudinal experiences include Inpatient Pharmacy Services, Drug Information & Non-formulary Request On-Call Pager, Pharmacy Administration, Ambulatory Clinics, Education/Academia and Resident Wellness and Resilience Series. Our affiliations with MCPHS University (Worcester Campus) and Western New England University will provide classroom teaching experiences as well as opportunities to precept pharmacy students on advanced clinical rotations. The New England Postgraduate Pharmacy and Teaching Learning Seminar Program is offered to our pharmacy residents through cooperation with MCPHS University, Worcester, MA.
The Baystate PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program participates in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Resident Matching Program. The BMC PGY1 pharmacy residency program has 4 positions available for 2026-2027. Submit applications through PhORCAS. The NMS program number for Baystate Medical Center's PGY1 Pharmacy residency is 161413. Applications close January 3rd 2026. All PhORCAS applications must include the following: College of Pharmacy transcript; 3 references completed using the PhORCAS reference form; Letter of Intent and Curriculum Vitae. Incomplete applications after the application deadline of January 3rd 2026 will be removed from consideration. The requirements for acceptance include: eligibility for pharmacist licensure in Massachusetts, Pharm.D. degree, completed online PhORCAS application submitted by deadline.
Baystate Medical Center (BMC) in Springfield, Massachusetts is an independent academic medical center and the regional campus of the University of Massachusetts Medical School- Baystate. BMC is a 780-bed facility and serves as the region's only Level 1 trauma center and pediatric trauma center. BMC is a major referral hospital, providing the highest level of care for oncology, cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, gastroenterology and other disease states.
