The PGY1 pharmacy residency builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions. The pharmacy residency allows each resident an opportunity to gain experience in multiple patient care environments. The resident will have required rotations in adult medicine (family medicine or internal medicine), critical care (medical, cardiac, or surgical/trauma intensive care), leadership and management, and pediatrics. They will also select rotations in areas of ambulatory care and specialized inpatient medicine services. Elective experiences are available in academia, psychiatry, hematology and oncology, investigational drug services, neuroscience intensive care, neonatal intensive care, and pediatric intensive care. The resident will be engaged in longitudinal experiences including code response, clinical and operations staffing, research, medication use evaluation, and teaching. Residents will present their medication use evaluation and research project at national (Vizient Pharmacy Network Meeting at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting) and regional(Midwest Pharmacy Residency Conference)meetings, respectively. Residents will also have the option to complete a teaching certificate program through UMKC. The knowledge and skills acquired during this year of training will prepare the resident for a clinical pharmacist position, postgraduate year two residency training, and board certification.
PharmD from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy, eligible for licensure in Missouri, and PhORCAS application with curriculum vitae, academic transcripts, letter of intent, and three letters of recommendation.
