Additionally, Stanford has extensive programs for pulmonary hypertension and adult congenital heart disease, and is one of the largest and most successful heart transplant and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) programs in the country.
Core rotations for the Post-Graduate Year Two (PGY-2) in Cardiology include: cardiac intensive care (CCU) and heart failure I and II, heart transplant and mechanical circulatory support, cardiology transitions of care, cardiovascular/surgical intensive care (CVICU), clinical research, and the hyperlipidemia/cardiometabolic clinic. Elective rotations may include: emergency medicine, medical intensive care (MICU), inpatient classical hematology, pulmonary hypertension, the metabolic health clinic, and the electrophysiology clinic, among others. In addition to clinical practice experiences, the resident will have the opportunity to participate in academic activities, which include precepting PGY-1 residents and students, as well as providing didactic lectures. The resident will conduct a mentored longitudinal research project and engage in leadership development. After completing this residency, graduates will be equipped to be active members of an interdisciplinary cardiovascular care team.
The Stanford Health Care PGY-2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency Program is currently in pre-candidate status for accreditation by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
Program Goal The PGY-2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency Program at Stanford Health Care provides specialized practical pharmacy training in diverse cardiovascular practice settings that builds on skills gained from a PGY-1 residency. Our goal is to train highly qualified and motivated new practitioners as they develop into the medication experts of interdisciplinary cardiology teams. The residency will prepare the resident to practice evidence-based medicine and make sound decisions for the large variety of cardiovascular disease states.
