As part of the BayCare Health System in the Tampa Bay area, St. Joseph’s Hospital North is a 216 bed community hospital located in Lutz, Florida. The PGY1 residency program is designed to build on Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (ie. BCPS) and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including PGY2 residencies.

Program Summary:
The residents will function as an integral part of the department’s patient care services. These responsibilities include the provision of pharmaceutical care, patient education, collaboration with preceptors in the education of pharmacy students, medication safety initiatives, and operational activities. The residents are expected to complete various projects throughout the year including, but not limited to, a research project to be presented at the Florida Residency Conference and a poster presentation at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.
