Sanford USD Medical Center offers four ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency positions. The program is a 52-week commitment with a start date of June 29th, 2026. Our program offers a variety of experiences in diverse areas with guidance from a team of passionate preceptors, many of which are residency-trained and board certified. Residents are mentored throughout the year, growing personally & professionally.
Required block learning experiences include Anticoagulation, Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Medication Safety, and Pediatric Internal Medicine. We offer a breadth of elective experiences that include Ambulatory Anticoagulation, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Disease, Nephrology/Transplant, Neonatology, Oncology, Pediatric ICU, Pediatric Infectious Disease, Pharmacogenomics, and Rural Health. Advanced level II learning can also be pursued in the areas of Anticoagulation, Critical Care, and Internal Medicine. Longitudinal experiences include Administration and Leadership Development, Education/Teaching, and Service.
As a part of program completion, each resident will conduct a research project over the course of the year with dedicated block time also allotted.
All residency candidates must meet the following prerequisites:
Earned a PharmD degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy
Hold an active pharmacy license, or be eligible for licensure in South Dakota

Applicants considered for a position will be invited for an interview with pharmacy administration, preceptors, current residents and will be required to review and present a brief patient case exercise.

PGY1 Pharmacy: 4 positions PGY2 Clinical Pharmacogenomics: 1 position PGY2 Thrombosis and Hemostasis Management: 1 position. Resident stipends are competitive and updated annually. Residents are provided a health and vision insurance stipend, and are allotted 20 days of Allowed Time Away (ATA). All required travel expenses are covered.
