Our Pharmacy Residency Program at Flagstaff Medical Center

Where the stunning high country meets cutting-edge clinical pharmacy—a place where your professional journey is as exhilarating as a sunny hike in the pines. We are a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency currently in American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) pre-Candidate Status.

Our core rotations span a variety of common patient populations and disease states. In partnership with our physicians and hospital staff, the purpose of the Residency is to prepare newly-graduated pharmacist clinicians for direct patient care positions in an acute care setting. The program aims to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care while upholding Northern Arizona Healthcare’s mission, vision and values. As a division of Pharmacy Services, the program will strive to provide cost effective and compassionate care, health care excellence, and superior service to our patients and their families consistent with clinical quality and safety standards.

How to Apply

Candidates Programs should submit an application in PHORACS by January 2nd.  Please ensure you include the following items:

• Current curriculum vitae
• Official college transcripts
• Detailed letter of intent
• Three professional letters of reference (Preference for at least one from an APPE Preceptor)

•  Must have a PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate and be eligible for licensure in the state of Arizona by the start of the Residency Year

About Flagstaff Medical Center

Flagstaff Medical Center is a 270-bed Level 1 Trauma Acute Tertiary Care Center and it is the largest hospital under the not-for-profit Northern Arizona Healthcare corporation. NAH is the principal healthcare organization in a region that encompasses more than 50,000 square miles and FMC is the only major tertiary referral center in all of Northern Arizona. As a large community health center, we see many patients from western New Mexico all the way to eastern California and southern Utah. We are also a major referral center for many Indian Health Service Facilities, encompassing a large underserved population. FMC is nestled in the scenic mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona—a vibrant community of about 75,000 celebrated for its rich blend of outdoor adventure and cultural heritage. We are about 4.5 hours from Zion National Park and only about 1.5 hours from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We also boast many nearby attractions including Walnut Canyon and Wupatki National Monuments Lowell Observatory, Sedona and Oak Creek, Meteor Crater, Bearizona Wildlife Park, and the Painted Desert. Due to elevation, each Northern Arizona city has its own unique climate and, at 7,000 feet... and counting, Flagstaff is no different. In fact, Flagstaff has four distinct seasons: cold and snowy winters; warm and windy springs; hot and dry early summers; and wet and humid monsoons late summer followed by a dry and pleasant fall. Don’t forget – warmer winter weather in Phoenix is just a two hour car ride away. Milder winter weather in the Verde Valley is just one hour away.
