Baptist Medical Center/Wolfson Children's Hospital offers residents the opportunity to develop a strong foundation through required rotations essential to pharmacy practitioner and to choose between one of two tracks for electives, adult electives or pediatric electives. The program of each resident varies based upon his or her goals, interests, and experience. Required rotations are orientation, drug information, internal medicine, general pediatrics and the December research month. Year-long longitudinal required experiences are administration/leadership, service (staffing), research, and education. Adult electives include cardiology, critical care cardiology, adult emergency medicine, adult medical/surgical critical care, neurology critical care, adult oncology, infectious disease, internal medicine II, and psychiatry. Pediatric electives are pediatric critical care, pediatric cardiovascular critical care, pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric hematology/oncology, neonatal intensive care, pediatric infectious disease or psychiatry. Other electives for either track include medication safety, investigational drug, pharmacy operations, or clinical toxicology. Some experiences may be repeated for an advanced experience.
Residents are required to develop and complete a major research project, which will be presented at the Florida Residency Conference or equivalent. Additionally, residents will have the opportunity to develop oral and written communication skills through multiple presentations and participation in pharmacy related committees.
Upon successful completion of the residency program, residents will receive a Certificate of Completion.
