The PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) offers a rigorous and immersive training experience within one of the busiest emergency departments in the region. TMH is a Level II Trauma Center that functions at a Level I capacity, serving a vast geographical area that includes North Florida, South/Central Georgia, and South Alabama. With high patient acuity, diverse subspecialty exposure, and a large trauma volume, residents will gain the knowledge and skills to practice independently as emergency medicine clinical specialists.
Residents complete a 12-month program designed to build advanced expertise in pharmacotherapy, clinical decision-making, and interprofessional collaboration in emergency care. Core rotations include multiple blocks of adult emergency medicine, internal medicine, infectious diseases, critical care, toxicology (at a regional Poison Control Center), and pre-hospital care with ground /air EMS ride-alongs. A broad selection of electives—such as pediatrics, trauma, psychiatry, free-standing emergency medicine, academia, and leadership—allows customization based on career goals.
Longitudinal experiences span advocacy, leadership, research and quality improvement, and emergency department staffing. The resident will staff every fourth weekend in the ED and one evening per week, ensuring consistent exposure to high-stakes, real-world emergency practice.
Professional development is strongly supported. The resident will present research at state and national forums, receive mentorship for publication, and attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and an Emergency Medicine Pharmacy conference meeting.
