The purpose of the Beacon Kalamazoo postgraduate year one (PGY1) residency program is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
The program features experience in both hospital-based pharmacy and ambulatory care. Required rotations include Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Administration, Ambulatory Care, and Infectious Disease. Residents are allowed to take three elective rotations, with a variety of different options available. The program also features a variety of longitudinal rotations, which extend the duration of the residency. These include code blue, stroke response team, and heart failure clinic, among others. Residents will complete their required rotations at Beacon Kalamazoo. However, residents are permitted to complete an elective at another institution, if the experience can be arranged.
