Residency Showcase Program Listings

This residency program is designed to provide postgraduate training that enables residents to achieve their professional goals, become a leader within the profession, provide compassionate care for members of their communities and contribute to the Walgreen Company’s advancement in healthcare.

The residency program is based at the Walgreens health-system pharmacy located at Piedmont Hospital-Atlanta. This pharmacy location offers clinical pharmacy services for patients who are prescribed complex therapies such as HIV/AIDS, oncology, chronic inflammatory conditions, and transplant. The clinical pharmacists at this site work closely with medical staff to provide optimal drug therapy for patients. The residency program graduates will be leaders in the future of pharmacy and will have an active role in advancing community pharmacy practice.

Residency Activities

The resident will participate in the provision of patient-care services through the following: 

•  Transitions of care and disease state management programs in areas such as HIV/AIDS, oncology, chronic inflammatory conditions, transplant, hepatitis B&C, immunologic disorders, pediatrics and limited distribution drugs

• Clinical management of specialty patients that includes: financial assistance, disease-specific clinical counseling, and close communication with providers for optimal patient management

• Impact patient outcomes through participation in patient counseling, Medication Therapy Management, patient adherence, and immunization services

• Assist with transitions of care through bedside delivery of medications upon discharge

• Comprehensive patient care services with a particular focus on Diabetes Self-Management Education

• Meet with regional leadership to learn about management initiatives and issues that can affect the implementation of patient care services in the community pharmacy setting

The resident will participate in the following activities that strengthen practice management and educator skills: 

• Develop and conduct a practice-based research project and present findings at regional and national professional meetings
• Design and execute collaborative practice, business plan, and quality improvement projects
• Instruct and precept APPE student pharmacists
• Complete a Teaching Certificate Program
• Participate in Atlanta Area Resident Journal Club

• Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
• Georgia pharmacy intern license by June 1st and Georgia pharmacist license within 90 days of the start of the residency program
• Complete the online resident position application at https://jobs.walgreens.com
• Submission of all residency application materials by the application deadline of January 15th in Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
