Residency Showcase Program Listings

This postgraduate training has two residency positions, one per site, to enhance their skill set in the community pharmacy setting. This residency will allow the pharmacist to build on their professional skills by providing a variety of direct patient care services.

At this site, it is the Specialty Pharmacy location, the resident will have exposure to a wide variety of disease states that require management with specialty medications, including HIV, oncology, transplant, fertility, cystic fibrosis, and many others. Residents will spend dedicated time with pharmacists within each of these care areas. Additionally, the resident will complete a longitudinal rotation at a traditional Walgreens pharmacy to enhance patient care skills with immunizations, MTM, and health and wellness services. Residents also complete an offsite ambulatory care rotation.

The residency is academically affiliated and financially supported, in part, by the Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. Residents at both sites complete a teaching certificate with Campbell University and engage in opportunities to advance leadership skills through partnerships with Walgreens leadership and the North Carolina Association of Pharmacy. 

Residency Activities

• Development of collaborative programs to improve patient adherence and outcomes
• Medication therapy management
• Patient counseling
• Assist in delivery of medication and disease-state education
• Transitions of care visits in conjunction with a local primary care clinic
• Enhance current and develop new clinical patient care services and evaluate their sustainability
• Development of leadership and management skills
• Administer immunizations
• Complete a Teaching Certificate Program
• Serve as a preceptor to pharmacy students
• Design, conduct, and present the results of a practice-based research project
• Complete rotations in ambulatory care and drug information

• Graduation from an ACPE accredited school or college of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred
• North Carolina Pharmacist license within 90 days of the start of the residency program
• Complete the online resident position application at https://jobs.walgreens.com
• Submission of all residency application materials by January 7th to PhORCAS
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae, including statement of career goals.
  • Formal letter of intent detailing the candidate’s career goals and vision and philosophy of community pharmacy practice.
  • Official transcript of pharmacy coursework
  • Three (3) letters of professional recommendation, one of which must come from an employer or work supervisor
• Individuals must participate in and adhere to the rules of the Resident Matching Program
• On-site interview (upon invitation)
