The mission of the Pharmacy Residency Program at OLHS is to provide quality patient care, education, and research. The PGY1 Residency Program is designed to provide the resident with the skills and knowledge required to become a competent pharmacy practitioner in today’s ever-changing medical community.

With over 20 dedicated clinical pharmacist preceptors, we offer a comprehensive training experience with required rotations focused to build a core foundation as well as a broad range of elective opportunities to diversify the learning experience.

Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – Academic Medical Center provides state-of-the-art healthcare services in a warm and caring environment. Our 24-hour full-service emergency department is staffed by board-certified emergency doctors. We have north Louisiana’s only Level 1 trauma center and the first trauma center in the state to be recognized by the Louisiana Emergency Response Network with a pediatric trauma program. We’re proud to say that we are also the region’s only comprehensive stroke center, providing the areas most advanced care to stroke patients. We also have the region’s only burn unit that regularly accepts patients from surrounding states who have burn injuries. Our pharmacy department is built on innovative clinical practice models. We are proud of the communicative learning environment we maintain within a teaching institution. We employ approximately 100 full time employees in our department including: pharmacists, technicians,... students and other support personnel. Inpatient pharmacy services and some ambulatory care services at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport are provided by decentralized clinical pharmacists in a team-based practice model. Residents will have the opportunity to learn and advance their careers in a health system that features state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge equipment such as the Epic electronic health record, Pyxis ES integrated dispensing platform and automated dispensing cabinets, BD Pyxis Logistics Inventory Manager, medication carousels, and several USP 797 compliant IV compounding areas.
