Facility Information The MaineGeneral Medical Center (MGMC) PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is based in Augusta and Waterville, Maine. The majority of learning experiences occur at the Alfond Center for Health (ACH), a 198-private-bed regional hospital in Augusta. Services at the ACH include emergency and critical care, various inpatient floors, a full range of inpatient and outpatient surgeries, diagnostics, substance use disorder and mental health services, maternity and pediatrics. Learning experiences are also at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, located adjacent to the ACH, and at the Thayer Center for Health in Waterville, providing ambulatory care and infusion services. MGMC is a teaching hospital affiliated with Dartmouth Medical School and the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME.

About MaineGeneral Medical Center, PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
The MGMC pharmacy department provides many services that help build the skills and abilities of a resident to become a professionally competent clinical pharmacist.
Some of the services our pharmacy department provides are:
•Anticoagulation monitoring
•Pharmacokinetics for vancomycin and aminoglycosides
•Renal dosage adjustment
•Therapeutic substitutions
•Cost-saving and cost-reduction recommendations
•Answering drug information inquires
The residency program emphasizes proficiency in clinical judgment, care plan development, knowledge of drug information resources, teaching skills and the ability to function as part of a health care team.
Upon successful completion of the MGMC PGY1 program the resident will be an independent pharmacist eligible for a PGY2 program, prepared to pursue an inpatient clinical patient care position or an adjunct faculty member.
