Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System serves the Veteran population in Central Arkansas at our large medical campuses in both Little Rock and North Little Rock, Arkansas.    We are a teaching facility with our Little Rock campus being physically connected to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.  Clinical and operational pharmacy services are offered at both of our main campuses as well as at our satellite clinics in Conway, Hot Springs, Mountain Home, Pine Bluff, Russellville, and Searcy.  We employ over 100 pharmacists, with many of those serving as residency preceptors.  Clinical Pharmacy Practitioners are an integral part of the treatment teams, serving in internal medicine, critical care, surgical, long-term care, infectious disease, and primary care, as well as in specialty clinics including hematology/oncology, mental health, liver, and heart failure.  We offer a PGY1 program, as well as PGY2 specialty programs in Ambulatory Care, Geriatrics, and Pain Management/Palliative Care.  Residents have the opportunity for didactic and experiential teaching of pharmacy students and may participate in the Teaching Certificate Program through the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy.

Program Purpose:  To build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete our PGY1 program will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

All pharmacy residents must be United States citizens and have graduated from an American Council on Pharmaceutical Education accredited college or school of pharmacy.  Applicants must meet requirements for federal employment, including health and immunizations.

CAVHS will accept residency applications through PhORCAS.  Application requirements include;

1. Curriculum Vitae
2. Official Transcript from an ACPE Accredited Pharmacy Program
3. Letter of Intent
4. Three references using recommendation form through PhORCAS.  
5. Copy of intern license (Upload in Supplemental Documents)*
6. Proof of US Citizenship (Copy of Social Security Card, birth certificate, passport)* Intern license and proof of citizenship may be scanned as one pdf and uploaded to PhORCAS as a supplemental document.
7. Applicants must be able to start residency on June 29, 2026.

Application deadline is January 3, 2024.  Special consideration will be given to applications submitted by December 24, 2023.
