We are recruiting for five PGY1 residents and have been very successful at recruiting residents since 1995 with many different areas of interest and colleges of pharmacy. This is partly due to our wide range of electives and pharmacy integration into the health care teams at the Cincinnati VA. Overall, many of our graduating residents have opted to stay in VA practice for their careers which speaks volumes about the wonderful practice available to pharmacists within the VHA family.
The Cincinnati VA serves over 40,000 Veterans within the tri-state area. The main facility is located near University of Cincinnati and several local medical campuses. As a teaching facility, professional students and post graduate learners for pharmacy and many other professions train here on interdisciplinary teams. The pharmacy department consists of over 80 pharmacists that cover, inpatient, outpatient, clinical and administrative services.
This residency allows residents to gain a strong foundation in direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient while also understanding administration and leadership. With completion of a teaching certificate, the residents complete their year with an in-depth understanding of teaching and precepting.

About Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center PGY1 Residency
The purpose of a PGY1 pharmacy residency program is to build on the Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
We have five PGY1 residents and have been very successful at recruiting residents since 1995 from many different areas and colleges of pharmacy. Overall, about 60+% of our graduating residents have opted to stay in VA practice for their careers which speaks volumes about the wonderful practice available to pharmacists within the VHA family.
