Located in the heart of New Orleans, our programs offer unique opportunities for residents to work alongside learners from the Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Sciences Center and Tulane University School of Medicine to provide care for a variety of patient populations across a broad range of clinical disciplines.
UMCNO’s Pharmacy Residency programs prepare pharmacists to be well-rounded, capable leaders who are ready to make a significant impact on patient care and the healthcare system. If you're looking to advance your career and grow as a pharmacy professional, UMCNO offers the ideal setting for you to achieve your goals!
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at University Medical Center New Orleans is a 52-week, ASHP-accredited program designed to build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to become competent, confident clinicians. Upon successful completion, residents will be skilled in patient care, practice management, and education, and will be prepared to deliver comprehensive pharmacotherapy services, seek board certification, and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies. The resident will receive training from experienced clinicians in a variety of practice areas to garner a well-rounded experience.
Interested candidates must complete and submit an electronic application using the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) website. The National Matching Services (NMS) Code for the UMCNO PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is 72016.

Three standardized reference forms, with at least one from a clinical preceptor or a hospital pharmacy supervisor who can comment on the candidate’s scope of responsibility, total patient load, level of autonomy, clinical abilities, and organizational and time management skills
Upon review of the above materials, an interview may be offered to a candidate. Selected candidates will be notified of a request for an interview. Interviews will be conducted on-site in late January and February. No compensation for the interview process will be provided.
