Baptist Health Louisville's post graduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency builds on the doctor of pharmacy education. We strive to contribute to the development of a clinical pharmacist responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and postgraduate (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
The Baptist Health Louisville PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program prepares pharmacists to assume clinical pharmacy positions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, disease state management, interdisciplinary patient care, drug policy development and implementation, and education of pharmacy students, patients and healthcare providers. This program in a large community hospital setting will engage each of our residents in a wide variety of direct patient care, policy development, practice research, practice management and drug information delivery activities. The residency is structured and administered in a manner that facilitates the professional growth of each resident through achievement of the following desired program competencies: 1) patient care, 2) advancing practice and improving patient care, 3) leadership and management, 4) teaching, education, and dissemination of knowledge, and 5) pharmacy research.
The PGY2 ambulatory care pharmacy residency program is jointly sponsored by Baptist Health Louisville and Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and is accredited by ASHP. The program builds on the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency program to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. Residents are offered a variety of unique clinical training experiences at Baptist Health Louisville, which allow them to function independently and integrate accumulated experience and knowledge, ultimately incorporating both into the provision of ambulatory patient care services. A strong emphasis is placed on academia, with opportunities for the resident to gain experience in teaching, facilitation, and coordination of multiple didactic courses as well as in experiential curricula at Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Residents are challenged to excel in a robust and supportive training environment that allows them to customize residency experiences based on their individual professional goals. Residents who successfully complete the program are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification in ambulatory care pharmacy.
Eligible candidates for pharmacy residency programs must be:
A graduate of or candidate for graduation from an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduation Examination Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP)
Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the commonwealth of Kentucky by the start of the residency program
Residency candidate selected must comply with all requirements for new employees at Baptist Health Louisville, including drug screen and immunizations. Applicants selected for employment will be bound by the rules set forth by the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists as well as applicable rules and regulations set by the state of Kentucky and federal law.
Selected candidates will be required to obtain Kentucky Pharmacy Licensure within 90 days of program start.
Residents are required to adhere to at all times, to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and ethical conduct.
