Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center (WOMC) is a full-service acute care community hospital serving Montgomery County and the surrounding communities in Maryland. The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at White Oak Medical Center aims to train highly competent, compassionate pharmacists and prepare them for advanced clinical practice, PGY2 training, or direct entry into clinical roles within health systems.
Following a 6-week orientation period, residents will rotate through 5-week core learning experiences including internal medicine, critical care, antimicrobial stewardship, transitions of care, emergency medicine, and pharmacy administration. Residents may choose 3 elective rotations including medication safety, clinical informatics, neurocritical care, psychiatry, and research. Depending on availability, other elective rotations may be provided off-site at nearby institutions.
Longitudinal experiences include a research/quality improvement project, medication use evaluations (MUE), ACPE-accredited continuing education presentation, case presentations, journal clubs, teaching/precepting, department newsletter development, and staffing.
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency conducted by Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring, MD has an accreditation pre-candidate status with ASHP. Once ASHP accreditation status has been achieved, it will be granted retroactively to residents who have successfully completed the program.
