South Florida Baptist Hospital’s 12-month ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency provides comprehensive training across a wide range of acute care settings. Residents complete core rotations in adult medicine, critical care, infectious diseases, emergency medicine, central pharmacy, oncology-focused ambulatory infusion, and pharmacy management/therapeutic policy. These foundational experiences—typically scheduled early but adjustable based on resident goals—ensure strong competency in essential areas of pharmacy practice. The program is rooted in a full-service, 146-bed community hospital in Plant City, FL, serving a diverse patient population as part of the BayCare Health System.
The residency is highly customizable, offering numerous electives such as preceptorship, transitions of care, women’s health/pediatrics, cardiology, informatics, virtual ICU, and advanced experiences in core areas. Residents also develop teaching skills, leadership abilities, and proficiency in both written and oral communication. While most rotations occur at South Florida Baptist Hospital, elective opportunities are available across the BayCare system, supporting individualized growth and comprehensive professional development.
Applicants must apply through PhORCAS and participate in the MATCH process. Required application materials include a letter of intent, current curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and official transcripts from all colleges of pharmacy attended. Candidates must hold a PharmD from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy or possess a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate. Additionally, applicants must obtain an active Florida pharmacist license within 90 days of the residency start date and are required to participate in an interview.
