Our Hospital
Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution that provides specialized pediatric health care.
Founded in 1901, CHLA is the oldest freestanding children’s hospital in California. Known back then as “the little house on Castelar Street,” the hospital admitted 14 patients during that first year of operation and opened the “surgery suite” in the pantry.
Currently CHLA has 386 active beds including more than 132 pediatric critical care beds, more than any other hospital in the Western United States. In the last year, we have had:
More than 747,000 patient visits
18,397 inpatient admissions
99,642 Emergency Department visits
2,063 patients transported via helicopter, Learjet and ambulance—one of the largest emergency transport programs in the nation
496 traumas treated
Awards
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has a reputation as an award-winning hospital. Whether it is for our national ranking for providing significant and comprehensive medical care and programs that meet a sick child’s entire needs or continuing to raise the bar nationally on our patient safety and quality health care programs within our walls, we continue to be a hospital that sets the standard of care. We were ranked No. 1 hospital for children in California, No. 1 in California and a top 10 pediatric hospital in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

Our Residency
PGY1 pharmacy residency programs builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
Pharmacists completing this residency will be competent practitioners, with the added benefit of experience in a world-class acute-care environment. As a part of the multidisciplinary team, they will manage drug therapy for common pediatric disease states and provide safe and cost-effective pharmaceutical care. The rotations will enable the pharmacy residents to gain exposure to a wide variety of pediatric subspecialties and prepare candidates to be pediatric pharmacists in acute-care settings or to advance to a PGY2 training in their area of choice.
