About Our St. Cloud Hospital, Department, and Residency Program
St. Cloud Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Minnesota with 489 beds and more than 60,000 emergency visits per year. Our hospital is currently transitioning to an academic medical center. This year, the CentraCare Health Care System and the University of Minnesota opened the first new medical school in Minnesota in over 50 years! It is an exciting time to consider a pharmacy residency position at St. Cloud Hospital.
The Pharmacy Department is composed of over 50 pharmacists with more than 25 pharmacists serving as preceptors. Our ASHP accredited PGY1 residency will be recruiting our tenth class of pharmacy residents this year.

About Our Ambulatory Care Department & Residency Programs
CentraCare’s Ambulatory Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and Anticoagulation Department includes 14 pharmacists embedded across 8 ambulatory care clinics. We have proudly precepted pharmacy residents since 1994 as part of our ASHP-accredited program.
CentraCare – St. Cloud PGY1 Program
This program is based at the Family Health Clinic in St. Cloud, where the resident collaborates closely with University of Minnesota Family Medicine Residents. Staffing responsibilities include one day per week in the on-site retail pharmacy located on the clinic’s first floor.
CentraCare – Paynesville PGY1 Program
Located in the heart of Paynesville, MN, this program offers a unique opportunity to build strong relationships with patients and the local community. Staffing includes one day per week in the critical access hospital, which shares a building with the ambulatory clinic. The hospital typically sees a census of 6–10 patients per day.
Both ambulatory-based CentraCare – St. Cloud and – Paynesville PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Programs:
Do not require evening, weekend, or on-call staffing
Offer strong preceptor and technician support
Feature a longitudinal design, allowing residents to follow patients over time
Empower residents to practice at the top of their license within CentraCare’s broad scope of practice

Both the CentraCare – St. Cloud and – Paynesville PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Programs are affiliated with the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy PGY1 Residency Program. This partnership offers:

Collaborative learning with co-residents in ambulatory care settings

Candidates for our residency programs must be:
Graduates of an ACPE- accredited college of pharmacy, AND
Eligible for licensure in Minnesota on July 1st, AND
U.S. Citizens or carry a U.S. permanent resident visa (a “green card”)
