Residency Showcase Program Listings

Sanford Medical Center Fargo’s PGY2 Critical Care residency is ASHP-accredited and offers one resident position. Our structured/goal-oriented program is designed to meet the resident’s needs and individually tailored to equip the resident for success. Rotations currently available include: medical intensive care, surgical intensive care, neurocritical care, CV surgery ICU, emergency medicine, infectious disease, nephrology/transplant, pediatrics/PICU, and NICU. A research project will be completed during the 12-month experience.

The resident has many opportunities to teach pharmacy students from the North Dakota State University College of Pharmacy and precept PGY-1 residents. The resident will also have the opportunity to complete a teaching certificate in collaboration with NDSU.

The current staffing commitment for the residency is every third weekend and is emphasized in ICU areas. Residents also have the opportunity to work additional shifts as a per diem pharmacist. Residents are not permitted to work in excess of 80 hours per week. This includes any employment outside of Sanford.

Residents are provided health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, and 20 days of vacation (includes holidays). The stipend is competitive and updated annually. Residents receive expense coverage to attend either the SCCM or ACCP Clinical Meeting plus the Midwest Pharmacy Residents Conference to present their research project.

Sanford Medical Center Fargo is affiliated with the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and offers Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Podiatry, Orthopedic, Surgical and Transitional Year medical residencies.

All residency candidates must meet the following prerequisites:

• Be an eligible graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy
• Hold an active pharmacy license, or be eligible for licensure in both North Dakota
• Must be participating in, or have completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency program or one in the ASHP accreditation process

Application materials must be submitted through PhORCAS by January 3 and include:

• Letter of Interest (include clinical areas of interest & reason for pursing residency)

• College Transcript
• Three letters of recommendation

Applicants considered for a position will be invited for an interview with pharmacy administration, preceptors, and current pharmacy residents in January or February.

The PGY1 positions are determined through the ASHP Resident Matching Program. All PGY1 candidates must register with the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
