Geisinger Clinic Northeast PGY-1 Residency offers a variety of experiences that allow residents to develop into skilled practitioners with a primary focus in ambulatory care, customized to fit the personal and professional goals of the resident. Each resident will be expected to provide quality pharmaceutical care by implementing safe, efficacious, and cost-effective drug therapy for all patients. While working on a multidisciplinary team, the resident will work in partnership with all care team members utilizing a collaborative practice-based model. Chronic disease management services will be provided through face-to-face visits, televideo visits, and by phone. The resident will be encouraged to innovate, lead, and improve the quality of care for patients while using integrated and routine communication with both healthcare professionals and patients.

The Geisinger Clinic Pharmacy program has more than 70 ambulatory clinical pharmacists managing patients’ medications for over 20 medical conditions. Pharmacists are incorporated into clinical sites within four practice models: primary care disease management, specialty medicine disease management, home-based primary care and pharmacy tele-management.
Pharmacy students from regional schools also rotate through clinics as part of their advanced pharmacy practice experience rotations. Residents will therefore have teaching and precepting experiences.
