Morton Plant North Bay Hospital is located in New Port Richey, FL and is part of the BayCare Health System.  Acute care services offered at North Bay include emergency medicine, medical-surgical services, intensive/ critical care, cardiac catheterization, interventional radiology, imaging, behavioral health, and inpatient rehabilitation. Pharmacy Residents are based at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital with opportunities for experience throughout the health care system. The Department of Pharmacy is responsible for pharmaceutical care services for North Bay Hospital and three off-site inpatient Behavioral Health facilities.

The PGY1 pharmacy residency program is designed to provide 52 weeks of training at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital. The resident will have the opportunity to work with the medical staff and residents to assure rational prescribing of medications, partner with nursing to improve the overall safety of medication use and engage with patients to improve their understanding of the medications they receive. BayCare’s clinical pharmacists and clinical coordinators have expertise in a variety of fields including and not limited to cardiology, infectious disease, geriatrics, oncology, critical care, surgery, internal medicine, and therapeutic policy.

All PGY-1 residents will be required to complete learning experiences in core subject areas considered to be essential to pharmacy practice. Residents will also have a broad range of elective learning experiences available that will allow them flexibility in pursuing individual goals. Required longitudinal experiences include major projects such as a research project, drug utilization review, drug monograph, continuing education program, and practice coverage.

• Internal Medicine 1
• Internal Medicine 2
• Administration
• Critical Care
• Emergency Medicine
• Cardiology
• Practice Management

Elective rotations may include:

• Behavioral Health
• Transitions of Care (off site)
• Infectious Diseases
• Oncology (off site)
• Pediatrics (off site)
• Advanced rotations

Requirements:

• The applicant must participate in the MATCH process

  • Letter of intent
  • Current Curriculum Vitae
  • Three letters of recommendation (prefer letters from pharmacy related employer or preceptors from clinical rotations)
  • Official transcript from all colleges of pharmacy attended
  • The applicant must possess a Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy
• The applicant must have active Florida Pharmacist License within 90 days of the residency start date
• The applicant must participate in an onsite interview
